American History

American History: 5 ft x 4.5 ft, oils and collage on gallery wrapped canvas. 2020. â€‹Video here. This is among the last few paintings I was able to do before having further surgeries on my arms and hands. This painting was inspired by the murder of Mr. Floyd and by the rape, murder and unimaginable injustices against my people, of indigenous heritages. This painting took several years of historical research to document injustices beginning in 1619 to 2020.

Lavender Menace: 5 ft x 4.5 ft, oils and collage on gallery wrapped canvas. 2020. â€‹This painting was completed in 2020 to mark the 100th year anniversary of women's right to vote. More importantly this painting was inspired by 'Lavender Menace' an informal group of lesbian radical feminists formed to protest the exclusion of lesbians and their issues from the feminist movement at the Second Congress to Unite Women in New York City on May 1, 1970.

For the past seven years, I have been in recovery from a car accident. While in recovery, I developed new works that allow me to work in a more gentle way. My new works under the name (T6DH) The 6 Directions of Healing have allowed me to embrace nature and great spirit.  Foraging allows me to be in the forests for long periods of time which brings a great calm. Throughout all of this, I have had an environmental awakening and have come to understand that all of life is fragile. Leaning into the radical feminist energy of the German Christian Mystic, Hildegard of Bingen. She has helped me to understand the power of a resilient spirit.  I look to nature as my guide as I move forward in my life and work. My painting archive is available upon request

Land acknowledgement:

The land I have purchased with my husband holds circumstantial evidence suggesting that the land belonged to the Piankeshaw, a related branch of the Miami people. The map originated as part of an attempted land sale to the 'Wabash Land Company' during the early 1770s. I understand I purchased and closed in the year 2023 on the March equinox. This is when the sun crosses the celestial equator from south to north.
